What rigid boxes are

A rigid box — also called a setup box — is built around a board core rather than folded from a single sheet of card. The board gives it structure: it holds its shape, does not collapse when opened, and carries a wrap of printed paper or fabric over the top.

It is the premium end of packaging. A rigid box is what makes an unboxing feel like an event, and it is the usual choice for jewelry, beauty and gift sets.

The formats

  • Lid and base — the classic two-piece box.
  • Magnetic closure — a flap held shut by magnets. The most common premium format.
  • Drawer or slide — an inner tray that slides out of a sleeve.
  • Book-style — hinged like a book, opening to a fixed interior.
  • Two-piece with insert — a molded or die-cut insert holding the product in place.

Materials and finishes

The core is grayboard, in a thickness matched to the box size. The wrap is printed paper, specialty paper or fabric, and the interior can be lined or left as board.

Finishes are where a rigid box earns its price: soft-touch lamination, foil stamping, embossing and debossing, spot UV, and ribbon pulls. Inserts are cut from EVA foam, molded pulp or card.

Questions

What is the minimum order for custom rigid boxes?
500 units. Guru sources every job at a 500-unit minimum, which makes a rigid box viable for a single product launch.
What is the difference between a rigid box and a folding carton?
A rigid box is built on a board core and holds its shape; a folding carton is folded from a single sheet and ships flat. Rigid boxes cost more and feel more premium.
Can rigid boxes be printed inside and out?
Yes. The outer wrap is printed, and the interior can be lined in a second color or left as board.
What finishes are available?
Soft-touch lamination, foil stamping, embossing, debossing and spot UV, plus ribbon pulls and custom inserts.
How long does a rigid box order take?
We return a quote in 24–48 hours. Production time depends on the finish and the insert, and is confirmed on the quote.
