What padded mailers are
A padded mailer is a flat mailer with a cushioning lining — traditionally bubble wrap — bonded to a paper or film outer. It sits between a poly mailer and a box: lighter and cheaper than a box, but with enough protection for items a plain envelope would not save.
It is the standard way to ship small, light, fragile goods — cosmetics, electronics accessories, jewelry, samples — where a box would be overkill.
The formats
- Kraft bubble mailers — a kraft paper outer with a bubble lining. Recyclable in a paper stream if the lining separates.
- Poly bubble mailers — a plastic outer, more water-resistant.
- Paper-padded mailers — a paper outer with a paper or honeycomb lining, fully recyclable.
- Self-seal mailers — the standard closure.
- Printed mailers — the outer surface printed with your artwork.
Materials and finishes
The outer is kraft paper, white paper or poly film; the lining is bubble, paper or honeycomb. Sizes run from small, for a phone case, to large, for documents.
Printing is flexographic on the outer. Where the item is rigid, heavy or valuable, a rigid box gives more protection; where it is soft and flat, a poly mailer is enough.

Questions
- What is the minimum order for custom padded mailers?
- 500 units. Guru sources every job at a 500-unit minimum.
- What is the difference between a padded mailer and a bubble mailer?
- They are the same product. Padded is the industry term; bubble describes the lining.
- Are padded mailers recyclable?
- The paper ones are, if the bubble lining separates. Ask the plant which stream the lining takes.
- Can they be printed?
- Yes, flexographically on the outer surface.
- Are they strong enough for fragile items?
- For small, light items, yes. For anything heavy or rigid, a box is safer.
